This article is part of our ongoing series on the artists joining Tacoma City Ballet for our Sultry Summer Night Soirée Saturday, July 21st at 7:00 PM. A limited number of tickets are still available for this amazing evening of art immersion.
Josephine E. Rice is new to Washington this season from midwest roots in Prairie View, Illinois. She studied at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, earning a BFA in Interior Architecture. Since childhood, making art has brought her great joy
and satisfaction. She also has a fascination with design, movement, choice, composition, color, dreams, escapes, trees, plants and energy. The Pacific Northwest’s lush nature inspires her creations, along with spontaneous shape. Organic outpourings are spilled as experiments as Rice arranges selections with a whimsical twist. Delicate stories unfold with ongoing trials; mixing, matching, and layering until the feeling is just right. Contour lines graphically smooth the solid matte color combinations. Her light hearted and idealistic artwork is made up of gouache, marker, and paper.
