This article is part of our ongoing series on the artists joining Tacoma City Ballet for our Sultry Summer Night Soirée Saturday, July 21st at 7:00 PM. A limited number of tickets are still available for this amazing evening of art immersion.
To capture the spirit of a subject is the highest achievement I believe one can aspire to in art, and what I constantly strive for in my own work. And it is in wildlife that I find this soulfulness most apparent – in the eyes of that which is truly wild.
Mary is a wildlife fine artist who has combined her love of art and painting with her concern for the natural world and the fellow creatures which inhabit it. Crossing between realistic and impressionist styles, she strives to capture the essence of her subjects above detailed accuracy. Through her acrylic paintings and giclee prints, Mary hopes to encourage others to recognize the unique beauty of these animals which she hopes will in turn spark an inner desire to help preserve their lives along with the habitat that sustains them. Activism in its most poetic form.
Mary is also a freelance illustrator and graphic designer with a specialty in commercial vector-based illustration. Originally from Cleveland Ohio, she worked as a graphic artist for the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo where she illustrated and designed thematic exhibit signage and marketing materials using her skills in photography, fine art and vector illustration. She also worked as a graphic designer for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History where she created print collateral for the musuem’s communications division to help further its mission of environmental conservation.
Mary relocated to Washington state in 2007 to pursue illustration and fine art full-time. She was drawn to the pacific northwest’s boundless natural beauty, abundant wildlife and rich native cultures which has provided her with even more inspiration for her work.
