Storybook Ballet Theatre

 Tacoma City Ballet announces…
The Storybook Ballet Theatre!

The idea for The Storybook Ballet Theatre was born from the wild popularity of Tacoma City Ballet’s Halloween performance, The Haunted Theatre: Backstage Tour and Eerie Dances. Due to popular demand for more family-friendly, budget-conscious performances, Tacoma City Ballet is creating The Storybook Ballet Theatre. The new production, to be performed annually, will delight audiences with short ballets based on classic children’s fairy tales, nursery rhymes, proverbs, limericks and fables. The Storybook Ballet Theatre is designed to keep both young and old enthralled throughout each one-hour performance!  Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite storybook characters to join in the fun!

Tickets are just $5.00* and can be purchased online using one of the links below, over the telephone at (253) 272-4219 or in person during office hours at Tacoma City Ballet.

I’d like to know the names of some of the fairy tales you’ll be
interpreting, as I’d like to have read them to my granddaughter
beforehand. Would it be possible for you to let me know?
Thanks!

Good question, Judy! We don’t want to give it all away, but you may want to review the original stories of Rapunzel, Snow White, and The Three Little Pigs. See you in a couple of weeks!

Is it OK to bring a baby to the performance? I think it would be fun to try to bring our 4 month old, especially because it is a short program, but I don’t know if it would be appropriate to leave if she were to become fussy during the ballet. I would hate to be a distraction to the audience or performers. What are the rules of etiquette when it comes to babies and ballet?

Thanks,
Alisa

Hi Alisa,

Thank you for your question! We appreciate your concern for the performers and other audience members. For more formal ballets than Storybook Ballet Theatre or The Haunted Theatre, a 4-month-old may be a bit young to join the audience. However, these shows are much more family-oriented, so babies aren’t a problem. We do recommend selecting a seat on the aisle, close to the entrance so that you have the option to scoot out into the hallway if your daughter becomes fussy. Thanks again for asking, and we hope to see you next weekend!
