Summer Intensive Electives
Pointe, Conditioning, Pilates, and Children’s Ballet Theatre
Summer Intensive Electives are open for dancers enrolled in Elementary 2 through Intermediate Levels. All Electives are required for Performing Company Apprentices and all Electives aside from the Children’s Ballet Theatre Workshop are required for Performing Company Members. These Elective classes and workshops are designed specifically to complement the Classical Ballet training taught in the young dancers’ regular technique classes. Participation in Electives enables dancers to focus on specific technique issues while strengthening the body. Younger dancers must be enrolled in the appropriate technique classes to participate in the Children’s Ballet Theatre Workshop.
Beginning or Intermediate Pointe Class
Miss Erin teaches these pointe classes designed to introduce the dancer to pointe work or strengthen the dancer’s pointe work. The exercises in pointe class have been developed to strengthen the muscles of the foot, ankle, and leg to support pointe technique and reduce the likelihood of any pointe-related injury. Beginning Pointe Class open to dancers who are eleven years of age and older by permission of the instructor and who are just starting on pointe or who have been on pointe for less than a year. Intermediate Pointe Class open to dancers who have been on pointe for at least one year. Dancers enrolled in either Pointe Class must also attend at least two technique classes each week to ensure appropriate technique and strength to avoid injury.
Beginning Pointe: Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:15-1:15pm
Intermediate Pointe: Mondays & Fridays 12:15-1:15pm
One Class Each Week: $19 Per Week or $140 for the Full 8-Week Session
Two Classes Each Week: $38 Per Week or $280 for the Full 8-Week Session

Pilates Mat Class
Miss Nan teaches this intermediate/advanced Pilates class with a focus on the biomechanics of the body in movement, orienting to gravity and space.
Wednesdays 12:15-1:15pm

Children’s Ballet Theatre Workshop
In this 8-week workshop, dancers will learn the steps to all Children’s Ballet Theatre roles, including those from The Haunted Theatre, Storybook Ballet Theatre, and The Nutcracker. In addition to learning the choreography, students will receive coaching on the steps and the performance techniques our Artistic Staff will be looking for in auditions. This is an excellent opportunity for your dancer to work directly with one of our Ballet Mistresses, Miss Danielle, on exactly what they’ll need when they audition for The Haunted Theatre, The Nutcracker, and Storybook Ballet Theatre.
The Children’s Ballet Theatre workshop is required for those dancers wishing to join Tacoma City Ballet’s new Junior Company for the 2013-2014 season. For those students who are interested in performing but uncertain whether they are ready to commit to becoming a Junior Company member, this workshop will be a good introduction to what the Junior Company entails. Any young dancers who may want to perform in Tacoma City Ballet’s 2013-2014 Season will benefit from this experience delving into what Company rehearsals are all about and receiving personalized coaching from Miss Danielle.
